TMR: If your band could be summed up by a superhero, which one would it be and why?
Kid Astronaut: It was Batman before I became a father, but now it’s Black Panther.
The Hip Hop Scene In Denver – An Interview With Kid Astronaut
Kid Astronaut is a name you’ve probably heard if you’ve been paying attention to the Denver music scene, and it’s not solely because of his talent. Jon Shockness cares very much about the spaces he creates and how that translates into art, which has lead him to be one of the most loved and respected musicians in the state. He is a multifaceted performer and leader, working with groups from all over Colorado to create and build musical opportunities and experiences for those making their way up in the scene, and for those that love great music. Musically Kid Astronaut expands your horizons and floats you out to space with unique and ethereal grooves and lucky for us, he is dropping some new music Nov 15th. “ALCHEMY” is a 3 song EP, each song a different genre and all themes reflecting letting go of the negative denser energies and turning all situations into Gold, much like the process of alchemy. Kid Astronaut uses the music within the EP to tell a story about pain, joy, love and the human journey all culminating in a highly mystical and powerful new music experience.
We asked Kid Astronaut the same 4 questions we ask all bands that rehearse at The Music Range. But first go get your tickets so you can check him out TONIGHT at his “ALCHEMY” EP Release Party at Soiled Dove Underground starting at 7 pm!
TMR: If your band could be summed up by a superhero, which one would it be and why?
Kid Astronaut: It was Batman before I became a father, but now it’s Black Panther.
TMR: What was your favorite show you ever played?
Kid Astronaut: Last show I did with 2mx2. It was a “Mental Health Matters” concert in Aurora at South Middle School that was with Vocal Coalition. It’s an organization that believes music has the power to connect people who share a common purpose. Through their choir concerts, they help Coloradans unite communities through music so they can find common ground together and celebrate their shared humanity.

TMR: What is your dream lineup to play with, (Dead or Alive) + One local band?
Kid Astronaut: It’s got to be a Festival on the Moon in a space dome… (of course.)
- 2mx2 – 2mx2.com
- Tyler the Creator (5 albums from now in the future)
- Kendrick Lamar
- Surrelz
TMR: What do you like about The Music Range so far?
Kid Astronaut: Drum sticks magically appear on request! This space is built more for the artist in mind, it’s a great zone. The key pad technology is awesome, the place is high tech yet personal, because there is always support if you need it.
